The UK higher education sector is far behind that of the US and Australia, where studies have been carried out to understand the prevalence of staff- and student-to-student sexual misconduct. These should include enforceable professional boundaries and transparent disciplinary processes that place both complainant and accused on an equal footing with equal protections. With these in place, we can start helping universities put an end to gendered patterns of attrition and inequalities in higher education.
